We look ahead at what’s on this weekend at Scotland’s International Crime Writing Festival – Bloody Scotland
The train tickets have been emailed. The event tickets have been posted and the suitcase is packed, (well two out of three ain’t bad.) Why? Because Book Social is heading to Stirling this weekend for the return of Bloody Scotland! It’s just as entertaining as it is literary with events such as the ‘Killer Ceilidh’ lined up next to more traditional panels. There are huge names – David Baldacci, Alexander McCall Smith, Ian Rankin and of course, The McIlvanney Prize – awarded to the best Scottish crime book of THE YEAR.
Watch out for
The event gets off to a hell of a start with a stunning torch light procession from the historic Stirling Castle. Unlike other book festivals Bloody Scotland really has something for everyone; a quiz, a play, even a Scotland v England football match! Lets not forget the monumental ‘Crime at the Coo’ which last year hosted the fabulous Fun Lovin Crime Writers. Tickets for this are absolute gold dust.
For the love of book
Book nerds do not despair, there is some hardcore book stuff going down. Try ‘Pitch Perfect’ where the likes of Steph Broadribb and Book Social favourite Matt Wesolowski cut their teeth. Listen to Ruth Ware talk about her latest book, The Turn of the Key, a Christie like thriller set in the Highlands. Or Chris Brookmyre talking about Book Social favourite Fallen Angel.
It’s unique, (where else will you find Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon interviewing Ian Rankin?) It’s a complete riot and it’s happening THIS weekend in Stirling. We will be tweeting live from the events and would love to hear from you.
