Books and Biscuits #IndieRocks

Forum Typewriter

Last week we launched our new feature #IndieRocks shouting about anything indie to do with books. Book shops, authors, publishers, if it’s indie we want to hear about it. So when we heard of a new book shop in town that was a) independent, b) local to us, and c) involved biscuits, we just had to check it out.

All summer long

Now you may have heard of Forum Books already, as they’ve been selling books in Corbridge, Northumberland for years. Not one to sit on their laurels however they have just opened up a brand spanking new shop in Newcastle. And not just anywhere in Newcastle, in a former Victorian biscuit manufacturing warehouse, that already houses the UK’s largest independent commercial art, craft and design gallery called………..The Biscuit Factory!!!!

Forum will be at The Biscuit Factory all summer long (pass me some custard creams will you?) with a specially curated bookshop on the ground floor of the gallery. It houses a beautiful selection of books about art, food, travel and hot-off-the-press new fiction that you won’t find anywhere else. Trust me, there are some totally gorgeous books that you just want to take hold of and hug…. Is that just me?

Getting social

As the summer sun finally reaches Newcastle The Biscuit Factory begin their late night Wednesday extravaganzas called Artisan Social. Every Wednesday there will be extended opening hours, a pop up bar and delicious street food, yum. To tie in with this Forum, who always bring their A Game when it comes to events, are joining the party. Already in the calendar are One Day author David Nicholls and George Alagiah (yes, the news man). It doesn’t stop there though, Jessica Andrews will be doing a Saltwater book signing, and local lads Matt Wesolowski (if you haven’t read the Six Stories series yet why not?) and Daniel James, whose book we reviewed this very month, will also be stopping by.

If all that’s too much there is always the peace of the pulpit – their mothership in Corbridge is in a former church! Complete with pew book shelves and a beanbag filled pulpit for child friendly reading sessions. Where else can you get such originality but with an indie? THAT is why #IndieRocks.

You can find Forum Books at The Chapel, Market Place, Corbridge, Northumberland NE45 5AW and at The Biscuit Factory, 16 Stoddart Street, Newcastle upon Tyne NE2 1AN. Artisan Social will be held 4-8 pm every Wednesday from 3 July – 28 August.

If you have a reason why IndieRocks then let us know. We want to shout about it.
